If you want your Clients to connect to your PC, so that your clients don't have to configure their router or firewall to open an incoming Port, you will use the GoOut/Accept setup described below. In this setup, you will have to open a Port in your router/firewall, so your clients can connect to your PC when you want to remotely take control. This is a usual customer support setup, since your clients don't have to configure their router or firewall to forward a Port to their PC.
-----------------
1) Load RTC Remote Client on the PC which you want to remotely control. I will call this one the "Client PC".
2) Load RTC Remote Control on the PC from which you want to take control (where you want to sit to control the client PC). I will call this one the "Control PC".
3) Start the RTC Remote Control program on your "Control" PC and set it up ...
Remote Control PC is the one FROM which you want to remotely control client PCs. Since we want to allow Remote Clients to connect to our Remote Control, we will use the "Accept" option, make sure the "Accept" button (left) is down. When using the "Accept" option, we will be acting as a server (Listening on a port and waiting for connections). Now, let's prepare the Remote Control PC, so it starts waiting for Remote Clients to connect ...
• Choose a Port number ("Wait on Port"), through which Remote Clients will be able to reach this PC. Default setting is 1975, you can change this to any other Port which is free on your PC. Port numbers are in range from 1 to 65535, you should use ports between 1025 and 65000. You will need this number for the Remote Client.
• Click the "OPEN" Button.
The "OPEN" button will be changed to "CLOSE", which means that Remote Control is waiting for Remote Clients to connect and so make remote control of each client PC possible. When you want to close all Client connections, click the "CLOSE" button. You can then either close the RTC Remote Control application, or change the settings and OPEN it again.
4) Start the RTC Remote Client program on your "Client PC" and set it up ...
Since you want to connect to the "Remote Control", make sure the "Go Out" button (left) is down.
• Enter the Address of your "Control" PC. In most cases, this is what Remote Control program displays in it's "My Address" field. When entering the Address of your Control PC, you can use the "IP" form (like: 192.168.0.1) or the "Name" form (like: server). In some cases, you can only use the "IP" form (for example, when you connect through internet to a PC that doesn't have a static Address on the Internet). In other cases, it only makes sense to use the "Name" form (for example, when you connect to a PC that uses a Dynamic DNS Service to make its Address appear static on the Internet).
• Enter the Port on which your "Remote Control" is waiting. This is the Port number your Remote Control has entered for "Wait on Port". Same as for Remote Control, Default Port is here 1975.
After you have entered this data, you are ready to click the "Auto-Connect" button, to make your Client keep connecting to the "Remote Control". To close all open connections to Remote Control, you will close the Remote Client application.
5) Control connected clients from the RTC Remote Control PC ...
When Client(s) connect to your Remote Control, you will see how many Clients there are. If you click on the "File Explorer", "Desktop" or "Chat" option, if there are more Clients available, you will get a list of all Clients from which you can choose. Double-click a name and you're ready to control it. If there's only one Client connected, when you click on "File Explorer", "Desktop" or "Chat" you get control of that one Client and no list will be displayed.
Note: You can open as many "File Explorer", "Desktop" and "Chat" windows as you want, enabling you to control one or more Clients at the same time. But, since your Remote Control will only have one open connection per Client, you should try to have only one open Window for each Client, or stop Desktop Refresh when you use the File Explorer, since both won't work at the same time (File Transfer will be waiting if you have Desktop control on the same connection). This is a connection sharing issue, which doesn't apply if you are using the other way around and let Remote Control connect to Clients instead of letting clients open a connection to Remote Control. The easiest way to go about this is to start with Desktop control and let Remote Control disable automatic refresh when you click the "File Explorer" button.
